I was thinking through the power of adaptation recently. I was watching a documentary the other day and it touched on how our human mind works and the adaptation of an adults’ brain. It is so much more then we thought it is capable of achieving..
We as humans beings are a kind of creatures that can adapt to changes, but changes often come hand in hand with a certain kind of fear. And that fear stops us from being adaptive to changes, I often dread changes as changes sometimes conjures images of insecurity within us. Changes place me in the position of having to learn new things and start all over again the learning process and that can be pretty scary.
However, I believe that adaptation is one of the reasons why we survive until today and it is an inbuilt mechanism in all of us. Adaptation involves both physical and mental element. I recalled when I first entered army, I knew I had to adapt to that new environment. When I found a new job back then, I knew I had to adapt to my new working environment and a new group of colleagues. Adaptation varies from losing a love one, falling out of love to losing something precious.
Nonetheless, the good thing is that we are all built to adapt to changes and we were subconsciously doing so for many years. When we were first born as a baby, we learn
to
adapt to
the changes around uswe learn to adapt to the changes around us, by learning to walk and talk and so on. All these are adaptations but along the way we seem to lose such instinct through unwillingness to change.
I would like to emphasize that the power of changes is within us. It is whether we CHOOSE to allow changes or we CHOOSE to resist changes.
Many of us dislike changes and will fight our way to resist changes but if certain changes are for the better good, or sometimes even vital, perhaps we should learn to adapt to them.
While writing this, I am very much a person who dreads changes and still learning to adapt to changes everyday but I believe that it is never too late to start learning.
