In the context of Singapore, people are many a time driven by the 5Cs, (Condominium, Cash, Car, Credit Card and Country club membership). Surprisingly, during a recent survey conducted by the National University of Singapore, friends came in number three when they were asked to list down their life’s priorities. The first 2 seats were given to family and health.
Such findings are pleasing to the eyes. Even in Singapore, such an urbanized society, where people are often demanding in terms of their needs and wants, people still very much treasure the warm feeling of friendship. I personally believe that this phenomenon would be similar all over the world whereby friends
come
before material friends come before material comfort.
Indeed, I feel that we can replace credit cards easily but not friendship. In my personal opinion, friendship is often built not in times of comfort but in times of trouble and difficulty. It is often through those troubled times that friendship were built. Try to recall how your friendships were build between you and your good friends. Weren’t the tough times that created a stronger bond??
One of my favorite TV program is “FRIENDS”. I personally feel that the friendship that the 6 characters had portrayed in the show is very realistic so much so that many might actually felt they had lost a good friend at the end of the show. I am glad that I have a lot of good and true friends around me and I hope that the friendship will last for a long, long time.
Try looking around you; if you have some friends whom you treasure a lot, perhaps, you should let them know how much they mean to you. At the same time, if you realize that all of your friends are just plain acquaintances, you might want to reorganize the way you lead your life.
All the best for you and your good friends and remember
“A friend in need is a friend indeed”
Sincerely,
Judson
